Snowbasin / Powder Mountain. 5-day Trip

A Powder Blast from the Past and an Olympic Challenge
March 3 - 7, 2012 (Closed)

You asked for it, and you got it! In the winter of 2010, SAGA North ventured up to Powder Mountain and Snowbasin for a 5 day trip. And based on our members' feedback, we decided to return there this ski season, on Saturday, March 3, 2012 through Wednesday, March 7.

The two ski areas we will be visiting are a study in contrasts, and yet both offer superlative skiing and snowboarding. As you may recall, Snowbasin was the venue for the downhill events in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. The resort boasts 2,950' of lift served vertical, 3,300 skiable acres, a sleek and modern lift system that includes high speed gondolas and a tram, and mountain lodges that will knock your wool socks off. There are numerous groomed and ungroomed runs, and then of course there are the Men's and Women's Olympic Downhill Courses. Challenge yourself by trying them out. And March is the month that usually has an abundance of snowpack and the sunniest weather of their winter.

Additionally, Snowbasin's lodges were a showcase for the Olympic Games, and each of the three mountain lodges emphasizes a particular cuisine; choose from either Austrian, Italian or American specialties, depending on which lodge you decide to visit for lunch.

And then there is Powder Mountain. Don't give away the locals' secret of this hidden gem in the world of skiing.

With over 7000 acres of skiable terrain, Powder Mountain is actually one of North America's largest ski areas. Approximately 3000 acres are traditional lift served runs, including groomed cruisers and powder runs. Then there are another 1200 acres served by the Powder Country Shuttle, another 800 acres accessed by the Lightning Ridge Snowcats, and another 2000 acres reserved for the Snowcat Powder Safari just in case you still didn't get an adrenalin rush. The lodges are rustic with homestyle food and some of the friendliest staff you'll ever meet at a ski resort.

Our host hotel will again be the Marriott Hotel in Ogden. Centrally located, the hotel also boasts an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna. A full hot buffet breakfast is included each morning before you hit the slopes. Within 3 blocks of the hotel are numerous restaurants, pubs, movie theatres, and a Gold's Gym. (with lap swimming pool too, for anyone who still has some leftover energy!)

The trip price includes roundtrip airfare from Oakland to Salt Lake City, luxury roundtrip coach transfer from the airport to our host hotel, four nights at the Marriott in a double occupancy room, all taxes, two lift tickets to Snowbasin and two lift tickets to Powder Mountain, twice daily shuttle vans in the morning to each ski area, and two pickup times in the afternoon for the return to our hotel. But you'd better not dawdle if you have any inkling of coming on this trip. We only have room for 14 skiers, and this trip is guaranteed to fill up very quickly.
