SAGA North House in Tahoe

SAGA North is renting a house for our Tahoe trips. Everyone said the house we rented for the 2009-10 season was great, so we are renting it again this year, and adding on two more weeks!

Our house is located in the Tahoe Donner area of Truckee, a stone's throw from Sugar Bowl, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar. It offers over 2,600 square feet of total living space, with a pool table and a hot tub. The full kitchen, living room and dining room will be perfect for our Saturday night dinner parties.

If most of us carpool to Tahoe, there is plenty of space for cars. There is garage space for four cars, plus room for two more on the driveway. Even more are possible on the steep part of the driveway if it isn't too icy.

Shared Lodging

Our Tahoe weekend packages include accommodation on Friday and Saturday nights, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, a Saturday night dinner party, and a one day lift ticket. A second dicount lift ticket may be purchased on the trip.

The house may also be rented for midweek nights at $30/night per person. This only includes lodging. See the details below.

Standard Package — $210/weekend

(Except Squaw Valley trips, which go to $225 after November 30.)

  • King-size bed (sleeps two): one in the main house's master bedroom.
  • Twin bed (sleeps one): two in the main house's twin bedroom.
  • Queen-size bed (sleeps two): one in the guest house studio apartment (includes a bathroom and mini-kitchen).

Economy Package — $175/weekend

(Except Squaw Valley trips, which go to $190 after November 30.)

  • Bunk bed (sleeps one): four spots in the main house's upstairs bedroom.
  • Queen-size futon (sleeps one): one in the main house's loft and one in the guest house's sitting area. These may be reserved for overflow, or sold, at the trip leader's discretion.

 

The weekend trips

Signing up for Weekend Trips

The weekend trips can be found in Step 3 of the sign-up pages. Click on the plus sign to open a trip up to see the options. Each trip allows you to sign up for the standard or economy package. Most trips also allow you to optionally add on a lift ticket for the second day.

Additional Details

The master bedroom in the main house has its own bathroom, but it needs to remain accessible to other trip participants.

To room with someone or request a specific bed in your price category, please e-mail the event leader to make prior arrangements. We cannot guarantee that all special requests can be accommodated but we will do our best.

Mid-Week Rental — $30/night

During our Tahoe season, it is possible to arrange to stay at the SAGA North house mid-week for $30 per person per night. The nights are Sunday though Thursday nights from January 24 to February 11, and February 22 to March 18. (Excluding the week prior to the Presidents Holiday.) The Thursday and Sunday nights are especially popular for extending the weekend trips.

When using the SAGA North house, we ask all persons to keep the house in good condition. Although we are not asking for a security deposit, if there is any damage we will hold those using the house responsible.

  • Remove all shoes and boots at the door when entering (bring slippers)
  • No pets allowed
  • No smoking inside the buildings
  • At departure, wash all pots/pans and run the diswasher for all eating utensils
  • Place trash in the bear-proof locker in front of the house
  • Leave clean sheets for all the beds
  • Set the thermistat to 62° when the house is empty

If there are sufficient clean sheets, it may not be necessary to do laundry, but that depends on how many sheets are used.

How to sign up

The midweek nights at the Tahoe House can be found in Step 3 of the sign-up pages. When you first look at this, only a few nights will appear. Those are the nights that any SAGA member may sign up for. If you are an authorized SAGA North member, you can sign up for any mid-week night within the rental period of the Tahoe House, but most of those nights will not appear in Step 3 until you enter your personal information in Step 1.

Authorized SAGA North members are those SAGA North members who have been in the club several years or have held leadership positions in the club. Authorized members must be the first person to sign up for any particular night at the SAGA North house. Members who have been active in the club during the last few years will automatically be pre-authorized. Pre-authorized members will receive an email to notify them of this. Other members who have been in the club prior to the last four years may request authorization by contacting the club president.

All SAGA North members can sign up for nights at the Tahoe House once an authorized person has signed up for the same night. As more authorized persons sign up, more nights will become available to other members. Check the SAGA North website often to see which nights are open by going to Step 3 of the sign-up page.
