Bay Trail Bike Ride

Bay Trail along the Mid-peninsula

Join SAGA North for a bike ride on an easy, mostly paved, section of the Bay Trail. The serene path follows the estuaries and wetlands bordering the SF Bay. It is a birdwatchers paradise. If the winds are right, you may see the wind surfers and kite boarders along one section. It is easy, all flat, except for a small hill through Coyote Point Park — the main resistance will be the persistent afternoon wind along the bay.

The ride will begin from the parking lot near the radio towers at the end of Radio Road, off of Redwood Shores Parkway. (See ) After looping around Redwood Shores and Foster City, it will pass under the San Mateo bridge, go through the Coyote Point Park, and end up just south of the SFO airport.

If the winds follow a typical pattern, on the outbound leg, we will be tending to go into light winds, and on the return, will tend to go downwind as the afternoon winds begin to pick up.

The round trip is about 30 miles. At the turnaround point, we will stop to rest a few minutes and eat our snacks. (There may be shorter rest stops along the way, as needed.) Bring your your own water and snacks to consume on the ride. Extra water and granola bars will be available at the turn-around point. Don't forget sunblock.

Optionally, we may meet afterwards for a late lunch near by. Let the trip leader know if you are interested when you RSVP.

Those who prefer a 17 mile route can start in Foster City and join the rest of the group when they pass by (about 11:00 am). The meeting location is at the intersection of Beach Park Blvd., and Swordfish St. (See )
