Golden Gate Bridge Bike Ride

Casual, Scenic Bike Ride
Fisherman's Wharf to Tiburon
Sunday, May 11, 2008
2:30 pm — 6:45 pm

Keep your legs in shape after the snow is gone!

Join SAGA North for a (road) bike ride from Fisherman's Wharf, across the Golden Gate Bridge, through Sausalito, around Richardson's Bay, and to the Tiburon Ferry terminal. We'll meet at Jefferson and Powell Streets by the water, at Fisherman's Wharf.

We'll have an early dinner in Tiburon and then take the 6:20 PM ferry back to Pier 41 near Fisherman's Wharf. If we are on schedule, we'll stop for ice cream in Sausalito. If not, we'll keep on going so we have time for dinner in Tiburon.

The total distance is about 20 miles. This ride will be casual and social (12-16mph on the flat). There is a short, but relatively steep climb from Crissy Field to the Golden Gate Bridge. (You'll either need a climbing gear or to attack it out of the saddle. You might want to have shoes suitable for walking that.) The rest of the route is downhill or flat. The ambitious can add the Belvedere loop for a little extra climbing.

Please RSVP with the trip leader. Car pooling can be arranged to minimize parking if you don't want to ride across town to the starting point.

Note: parking can be ridiculously expensive near Fisherman's Wharf ($32 for an afternoon). You might want to take BART to Embarcadero and then bike the last mile to the start, or plan some extra time to look for free on-street parking within biking distance of Fisherman's Wharf.
